Ryan was here ...

My not-so-sweet nothings, mostly comprised of my feelings at losing my two-day-old son, Ryan David, to congenital heart defects, and to celebrate the arrival of Ryan's healthy little sister, Megan Elizabeth, and hopefully welcome another little miracle into our brood in July 2010.

So ...

If someone goes to a butterfly release to honor their angel baby and they're given a dead butterfly to release, that's not a good sign, is it?

I didn't think so, either.

Well it's not a good sign for the butterfly anyway.

You know, Ryan would be at an age now that he'd be fascinated with bugs but chances are he'd be too haevy handed to successfully handle them. Maybe he squished it for you. Maybe the sign was "I'm playing with bugs up here!".

And maybe your little bub is just fine too and the butterfly is just a dead butterfly. Thinking of you and hoping everything remains ok:)

It just means that the butterfly is already with Ryan. :)

I like Jill's thoughts on this. I'm sure it had to be very upsetting (and I hope you were able to get a live one to release) but I'm slowly learning that sometimes a dead butterfly is just a dead butterfly.

I had all kinds of good omens when I was pregnant with the twins (including finding out I was pregnant exactly three years to the day that I found out I was pregnant with Thomas) and things ended badly just the same.

I think the dead butterfly was just a very, very unfortunate coincidence - and I'm so sorry it happened.

But I totally believe that little baby is doing just fine in there. And Ryan is too.

Bad omens are lurking around every corner, if you look for them! I know it must be so hard just to ignore them... I hope you get some peace of mind from time to time to balance out the worrisome thoughts. Thinking of you!

It's hard not to see signs and omens in everything, but I like Jill's take on this too.

I like jill's take too. Besides, i no longer really believe in omens.
